In his second season with the Portage Terriers, Assistant Captain Chase Brakel named Playoff MVP and awarded the Joe Sponsarski Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Playoff Performance.

Chase was an integral part of this years championship team. The 5th place Portage went on to beat the 4th place Selkirk Steelers, the first place Steinbach Pistons and the 3rd place OCN Blizzard on their way to their third Turnbull Cup in as many seasons.

Brakel notched 8 goals and 8 assists in 18 games including the game winning goals in game 5 and 6 of the final round. The veteran forward also received 3 out of 4 Player of the Game honors in the Western Canada Cup in Penticton in May.

“A lot of guys stepped it up in the playoffs so the award could have gone to a few different guys and I am honoured that I was picked. I look forward to returning to Portage next season.” -Chase Brakel
